Contract Success for YMCA Fylde Coast

New Momenta Contract

YMCA Fylde Coast working in partnership with adult weight management experts ‘Momenta’ have been successful in securing a contract to operate a Tier 2 lifestyle weight management service across North Lancashire.

The contract award will see the YMCA and Momenta working in partnership with Lancashire County Council’s Public Health Team to deliver the service in Fylde, Wyre and Lancaster with a specific focus on targeting areas of high need.

The partners will deliver a multi-component behavioural intervention service focused on nutrition and physical activity, supporting individuals aged 18+ to lose weight and maintain weight loss. The service aims to facilitate referrals through community services and self referrals through a robust marketing strategy.

The YMCA currently delivers the Momenta programme across Fylde and Wyre to great success. Delivered by specifically trained coaches, the programme supports participants who are above a healthy weight to adopt lifestyle behaviour changes that lead to long term weight loss.

Developed by a team of experts from the fields of clinical psychology, dietetics and physiology, the programme is proven to achieve clinically significant weight loss and reduce the risk of developing diseases associated with weight gain and obesity such as diabetes, heart disease and strokes.

Leading expert and Momenta co-founder and Director, Lisa Taylor said:

“We are delighted that we succeeded in winning this tender with YMCA Fylde Coast. It shows the power and cost-effectiveness of combining the YMCA’s local knowledge, presence, people and passion with Momenta’s deep expertise in weight management. We look forward to supporting the YMCA to deliver an excellent service and help as many people as possible lose weight and keep it off.”

Mike Vernon, Director of Physical Activity and Outdoor Education for the YMCA added:

“We are excited by the opportunity to expand the YMCA’s health and wellbeing programmes into more communities, allowing even more people to access our services. The weight management programme provides great synergy with the YMCA ethos of developing strong communities through positive impact with the individual.

We are pleased to expand our successful working partnerships with Momenta and Lancashire County Council, delivering a weight management service that will raise awareness and contribute to improving the health of North Lancashire communities for many years to come.”

The service will commence across North Lancashire in the New Year.
