This month Fylde Coast YMCA attended the Blackpool Football Club Sponsors Dinner at Bloomfield Road.
As Official Blackpool Football Club partners, Fylde Coast YMCA were invited to attend the end of season sponsors dinner and player presentation. A beautifully set up Matthews Suite in Tangerine set the scene for what was a positive reflection on a disappointing season (on the pitch) for Blackpool.
It wasn’t the season any Blackpool player, or fan, would have been wishing for at the start of the season but relegation was looming for Blackpool for some time. Three managers gave their best attempts to keep The Seasiders afloat in the Championship and even a brave push from Stephan Dobbie’s men couldn’t save them. A run which saw Blackpool win 3 of their last 5 matches, including two big away wins at Norwich and Birmingham.
Nevertheless, there were plenty of positives to take from the 2022/23 season. Blackpool had their best season ever commercially, selling over 8,000 season tickets, regularly bringing in 12,000+ spectators each home match, and selling out 14,200+ tickets vs Burnley in March. Jerry Yates, Blackpool’s top goal scorer also bagged 14 League goals this season, and finished joint 8th in the overall rankings, an excellent return for the Number 9.
On the evening, three prestigious accolades were available for the taking. To begin with, Shayne Lavery secured the PFA Community Award, recognizing his exceptional dedication to the community, and Jerry Yates claimed both the Players Player of the Season award and Goal of the Season title for his remarkable finish against Watford.
Next season Blackpool will drop to League One and will face likes of Bolton Wanderers, Derby County, and close rivals Fleetwood Town, in the safe hands of Neil Critchley.
We wish The Seasiders all the best in their attempt to return to the Championship, UTMP.
