Vic Heany’s Incredible Journey

One of our fully fledged YMCA’ers Vic Heaney will be 80 in July this year! In February 2020, Vic won a bronze medal at the English Indoor Rowing Championships at the Manchester Velodrome, after 6 weeks of training at his beloved YMCA Lytham.

Last December,Vic, who is partially sighted decided on an 80th birthday challenge. Being passionate about exercise, fitness and rowing, Vic decided he would enter the British Indoor Rowing Championships in December 2020 in the over-80 age category.

Radio Wave have given one lucky listener the opportunity to join their breakfast show presenters as they take on the YMCA 4 week fitness challenge.

YMCA Celebrate Success at Local Awards

Two great nights full of talent, dedication and commitment was on display at both the Wyre and Fylde Council Sports Awards this year. The YMCA were privileged to win two awards for Services to Underrepresented Groups at the Fylde Sports Awards in November and Community Project of the Year at the Wyre Sports Awards in October. Both winners will go on to represent Fylde and Wyre at the county Active Lancashire Sports Awards on November 22nd at the Dukenhalgh Hotel in Clayton le Moors.

A letter from L’s mum about his YMCA Lakeside experience

In the months leading up to the residential L was very adamant that he didn’t want to go. It was only a week before you managed to encourage him to actually go, but in his words “he was going but wasn’t going to do all the activities he would just watch the others”.
