We are incredibly proud to celebrate the outstanding achievement of one of our own, Lucie Marsh, a dedicated YMCA Fylde Coast instructor, who recently competed in the World Karate Championships held in Sheffield from September 6th to 8th, 2024. Lucie’s hard work and perseverance paid off in a spectacular way, as she brought home three medals across her categories, earning the prestigious title of Grand Champion.

A Journey of Dedication and Success

Lucie competed in both Kata—a series of choreographed patterns—and Kumite, which is sparring. She triumphed in the Veteran Female category, winning both Kata and Kumite events. Her achievements are a testament to months of rigorous and focused training, as she represented England on the national squad at the Canonn Arena in Sheffield.

The England squad, which consisted of 45 members, performed remarkably, bringing home a total of 69 medals.

Reflecting on her success, Lucie said:

“I am very proud to have reached this position in my sport after months of committed and dedicated training. Winning three medals at the World Championships is an incredible honour. I am especially grateful to the YMCA for allowing me to use the facilities for extra training and supporting my trips away twice a year.”

Building on Previous Wins

Lucie’s success at the World Championships follows her previous triumph at the European Karate Championships 2023 in Antibes, France, where she earned the title of European Champion. Competing internationally has become a regular part of her journey, and her recent win solidifies her position as one of the top competitors in her field.

A Shining Example of Commitment

Lucie’s achievements are an inspiration to all of us at YMCA Fylde Coast. She has proven that with dedication, hard work, and the right support system, anything is possible. We are proud to have played a small part in her journey, providing her with the space and resources to excel in her sport.

It’s not the first time Lucie has brought home gold for England on the world stage. Please join us in congratulating Lucie on her remarkable success and her representation of both England and the YMCA community!
