We’re thrilled to share that Lucie Marsh, one of YMCA Fylde Coast’s cherished fitness instructors, has once again represented England on the international stage, competing in the European Karate Championships 2024 held in Poland from October 9th to 13th. Despite battling a nasty virus that left her unwell on the eve of her flight, Lucie pushed through with her unwavering determination and came away with incredible results.

Competing as part of the AMA England Squad, Lucie participated in four events and earned:
🥋 Bronze Medal in Sparring
🥋 Bronze Medal in Weapons Kata (Short Weapons)
🥋 Silver Medal in Weapons Kata (Long Weapons)

Her success is a testament to her skill, perseverance, and dedication to her sport, even when faced with physical challenges. Reflecting on the championships, Lucie highlighted the fantastic teamwork of the AMA England Squad, which collectively brought home an impressive medal haul.

Building on a Phenomenal Year

Lucie’s European Championship success follows her remarkable performance at the World Karate Championships in Sheffield earlier this year. Competing from September 6th to 8th, Lucie earned the prestigious title of Grand Champion, bringing home three medals, including gold in both Kata (choreographed patterns) and Kumite (sparring) in the Veteran Female category.

Her incredible year is a continuation of her journey in karate, which also saw her crowned European Champion in 2023. Her achievements solidify her status as a formidable competitor and a true inspiration to our YMCA community.

Lucie’s Dedication at YMCA Fylde Coast

Lucie credits the YMCA Fylde Coast facilities for supporting her training and competitions. “The YMCA has been an incredible support system, allowing me to train and prepare for these international events,” she shared. Beyond her competitive success, Lucie brings the same passion to her work as a fitness instructor, where she has been making an impact for over 25 years.

Lucie leads classes such as Chair-Based Exercise, 50+ Exercise, Low Impact Circuits, and Trim & Tone at YMCA St Annes, as well as Gentle Exercise at YMCA Lytham. Her sessions are renowned for their welcoming, fun, and inclusive atmosphere.
