We are calling on the community to give them our vote ahead of prestigious national youth awards ceremony
We are asking local people to give our Y:Women Can Project their backing ahead of a prestigious national youth awards ceremony hosted this autumn by TV presenter, June Sarpong MBE.
Fylde Coast YMCA, which has operated throughout the Fylde Coast for the past 94 years has seen its Y:Women Can programme shortlisted as YMCA’s best Health and Wellbeing Project for the Youth Matters Awards in 2016. Our Fylde based project which aims to increase participation for women and girls in sport and is up against four other schemes within the award category.
Since January, Y: Women Can has been working in partnership with Sport England’s This Girl Can campaign and has been shortlisted for the award due to its continuing success, welcoming over 600 women to the programme and receiving over 2000 female visits to their sessions.
The project has quite clearly brought the women and girls within the community closer together whilst improving their general health, wellbeing and social interaction.
Y:Women Can has heavy reliance on its volunteers. Without the commitment and dedication of these invaluable individuals, the project would not be what it is today. It is down to these people that this project is in the running for such a prestigious award.
John Cronin Chief Executive of YMCA Fylde Coast said: “We are overjoyed and excited to be nominated for such a significant award and to have reached this stage of the process. We hope everyone in the local community will vote for us, as making it through to the final judging panel would be incredible.”
Jonas Bartle Coordinator of the Y:Women Can Project added “To reach this stage of the process is testament to all those involved in Y: Women Can for their dedication, time and commitment to this great project. We are so proud that we have got this far and we hope to go one stage further in the process and win the award. We are counting on your votes, so please vote for us!
