St Annes newest state-of-the-art fitness experience is opening this week following £15,000 investment and install of new generation Life Fitness equipment in the gym inside the St Annes Swimming Pool operated by YMCA.

The cash boost, made possible by YMCA and YMCA members and supporters, has enabled major improvements to the centre’s fitness experience. The gym now boasts 40 stations of a new generation of Life Fitness cardio entertainment and resistance kit which enables users to personalise their workouts in the gym, at home and on their mobile. A new dedicated free weights and functional training area has also been integrated.

James Wheelhouse, Manager of the centre said: “The gym was first introduced to the centre to widen the appeal of the facilities on offer, helping sustain the swimming pool which is well used by all areas of the community including 6 primary schools.

“This is the first time the gym has received a complete makeover since YMCA arrived here in 2010. We are really impressed with the results achieved in the last 5 weeks giving the gym its own unique style and a more modern look and feel.”

During November and in the run up to the gym opening the team have also been raising funds and awareness of men’s health issues in support of Movember.

James added: “Now the gym is back open we really want to encourage our fellow Mo Bros to get moving this month. Movember isn’t just about growing moustaches although that has been a lot of fun, it is about understanding what prevents men’s health issues such as leading an active lifestyle so we ‘re giving away free 2 day passes for men and women to use the facilities here.”

Earlier this year the changing rooms, reception and spectator areas re-opened after the completion of an extensive re-development project funded by Sport England £500,000 with an additional £100,000 investment from YMCA and £25,000 from Fylde Council.

Members and pay as you go customers can preview the facility all this week with the official open day this Saturday 22nd November. Free two day passes in support of Movember are available to pick up inside the centre.
