Climb Kilimanjaro for Comic Relief

Can you get to the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro? Take on our fitness challenges throughout March and run, cycle, row and step the 5895m to the top… All in aid of Comic Relief!

About Comic Relief

As one of the UK’s biggest fundraising events, Comic Relief brings the entire nation together to raise cash and change lives. As of the Red Nose Day appeal in 2013, the charity has raised a total of £950 million. The money raised by the public is spent by Comic Relief to help people living incredibly tough lives, both at home in the UK and across the world.

The Big Red Nose Day Challenges

The aim of the challenge is to get as many people as possible cycling, running, rowing and stepping to the virtual summit of Kilimanjaro as many times as they can, as fast as they can. The challenges last over 4 weeks with each week presenting a new way to make your way to the summit:

  • Week 1 – March 1st – 7th CYCLE 5895 metres
  • Week 2 – March 8th – 14th RUN 5895 metres
  • Week 3 – March 15th – 21st ROW 5895 metres
  • Week 4 – March 22nd – 28th STEP 5895 metres

Each challenge can be completed as an individual or as a team and prizes will be awarded for the fastest times recorded in each category. Your times will be recorded by the fitness teams at your YMCA’s.

To take part we are asking for a small donation of just £2, with all proceeds going to Comic Relief.

 Mount Kilimanjaro and Comic Relief

Mount Kilimanjaro, with its three volcanic cones, Kibo, Mawenzi and Shira, is a dormant volcanic mountain which last erupted around 150,000 years ago in Tanzania. It is the highest mountain in Africa and the highest free-standing mountain in the world at 5,895 metres above sea level.

Back in 2009 Comic Relief gathered a team of celebrities to take part in Red Nose Day Kilimanjaro climb. The team consisted of famous faces including Gary Barlow, Cheryl Cole, Chris Moyles, Denise Van Outen, Fearne Cotton, Kimberly Walsh, Ben Sheppard, Alesha Dixon and Ronan Keating, with all who took part reaching the summit.

Will you be next to reach the top?

Don’t forget Comic Relief Day itself is Friday 13th March.
