Re-Opening YMCA Centres on 2nd December

We will be back open from Wednesday 2nd December

Thank you to you all for your continued support during this time.

We are so happy to welcome you back (again!) into our COVID-secure centres from Wednesday December 2nd. Our booking window for your gym and swim slots will open from Monday 30th November. Please bear in mind on this day and until December 2nd there will be limited staff available to answer any calls, so please bear with us. The best way to book is via the YMCA Active Lifestyles App (more details on this are below)

Our focus in physical activity has always been your health and wellbeing – its the foundation of everything we do. Whilst the focus has always been on keeping you active, the recent spread of COVID-19 has shifted our focus to supporting your safety and wellbeing. We continue to take the necessary precautions to support your safety whilst visiting us, and that of the communities we serve.

Which Centres are Open?

The centres that will open on Wednesday 2nd December are as follows:

  • YMCA Garstang Leisure
  • YMCA Kirkham
  • YMCA Lytham
  • YMCA St Annes
  • YMCA St Annes Pool & Gym
  • YMCA Thornton

Wyre Council has put forward a report to propose additional funding to enable us to continue to provide a partial leisure service in Wyre. Whilst this provides at least some degree of certainty in the short term, unfortunately this comes with a recommendation that the centres at YMCA Poulton and Fleetwood remain closed until viable to re-open again. This will be reviewed by the council and the YMCA on a monthly basis. It is proposed that the swimming pool in Garstang will re-open again in January 2021.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a profound impact on how we operate and it is hoped that this funding from the council will support the sustainable economic recovery of our centres within Wyre. Our objective remains to reopen all the centres in Wyre when viable to do so. Without the level of demand we were seeing before COVID-19, and the fact that no central government funding has been confirmed, we have to find the best way forward and the most viable option to reopen all of our centres in Wyre and we feel by taking this approach, it will enable us to do so.

Which Tier are we in?

Lancashire has been categorised into Tier 3 for the present time which carries with it more restrictions than previously. Whilst gyms and pools are allowed to open Tier 3, we unfortunately at this time cannot operate classes or group exercise. This will be reviewed by the local authorities and central government every few weeks, so we hope to launch our group exercise timetable again before long. Our partners at UKActive also continue to lobby with the government to ask that group exercise be removed from the restrictions in tier 3.

Stay Safe With Us

Our focus is on ensuring we have safe, hygienic facilities, whilst giving you plenty of space to use. We continue to do lots of work in the background to ensure we can operate safely and we are confident that you can stay safe with us. Find out more about what we have been doing by clicking below. We are COVID response approved.
