With so many Fitness & Relaxation classes taking place at YMCA’s across the Fylde Coast, we thought we would give you a helping hand in choosing the right one for you.

Below is a selection of our most popular classes and and what exactly each entails. To make it easier for you, we have placed them in to different categories based on the type of fitness each class will improve. We categorise them in the following way:

Myzone aims to help people feel-good about exercise through technology. Myzone is available at YMCA Garstang and is an innovative wearable heart rate based system that uses wireless and cloud technology to accurately and conveniently monitor physical activity. Myzone delivers a fully connected solution for anyone who wants an accurate and motivating wearable experience. Myzone monitors heart rate, calories and time exercising that convert

Available at YMCA St Annes and YMCA Lytham, Momentum gives you live data from your workout in easy-to-understand colour zones, with a training history to keep track of your progress. Plus, it’s full of fun features and games which make for a one-of-a-kind group fitness experience. Compatible with indoor group cycling bikes, track your cadence, power and heart rate. Strength ClassesSTRENGTH


Exercises build strength and endurance particularly in the lower back, legs, shoulders and increases grip strength. The basic movements, such as the swing, snatch, and the clean and jerk, engage the entire body at once.


Using light to moderate weights with lots of repetition, BODYPUMP gives you a total body workout. It will burn up to 590 calories.

Les Mills Grit Strength®

High intensity workout that means you burn calories for hours after the workout, increase aerobic fitness and grow lean muscle tissue.


TRX suspension training delivers a fast but effective total-body workout. This class will also increase your core strength and muscular endurance.

Cardio/Tone Classes


You will learn new combinations, routines and advanced techniques for your boxing sessions in this dynamic class.


Dance to great music, with great people, and burn a ton of calories without even realizing it.


High-intensity interval training is a form of exercise in which you alternate between very intense anaerobic periods and slower recovery periods for a shorter, more efficient workout.


A 30-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout that improves cardiovascular fitness, increases speed and burns calories.


A multi-award winning HIIT workout that only requires you and a STEP. HIITSTEP is a 30-minute high-intensity interval training (HIIT) full body workout, designed to work you to the max.

Body Conditioning

A class that provides whole body workouts that focus equally on strengthening exercises, aerobic exercise and endurance.

Legs, Tums & Bums 

Get a firmer bum, tum and leaner legs by attending our ‘Legs, Bums & Tums’ workout.


A high-energy fitness class with moves that cater for total beginners to total addicts. We combine athletic movements like running, lunging and jumping with strength exercises such as push-ups and squats. A LES MILLS™ instructor will pump out energising tunes and lead you through the workout – challenging your limits and burning up to 730 calories.


A high-energy martial arts-inspired workout that is totally non-contact. Punch and kick your way to fitness and burn up to 740 calories.

Les Mills Grit Cardio®

This workout uses a variety of body weight exercises and provides the challenge and intensity you need to get results fast. Improvements will be seen in CV fitness, speed and maximal calorie burn

Strengthen and tone your core, taking your abs to the next level. Looking for a short, sharp workout that’ll inspire you to the next level of fitness, while strengthening and toning your body? Core® is for you!


On Spinner bikes, riders experience a challenging, exhilarating and fun workout. Knowledgeable and inspiring Certified Spinning Instructors — the core of Spinning — ensure riders enjoy the journey.

FitSteps is an energetic, up beat dance fitness class featuring all of your favourite strictly dances. It is designed to give real, measurable fitness results. It is suitable for all ages and abilities and you don’t need a partner. You will have so much fun you won’t even realise you are getting fit!


Tabata training is a high-intensity interval training (HIIT) workout that consists of eight sets of fast paced exercises each performed for 20 seconds interspersed with a brief rest of 10 seconds.


Fun easy-to-follow dance workout with rave glow sticks & disco lights. Club anthems from 90s to today’s hits.

Mind & Body Classes


Goes far beyond your core muscles. Not only does this provide a complete body workout (you will be working muscles you didn’t even know you had), but also helps you develop an awareness of how your body works, helping your mind and body to work in harmony.
