Challenge Your Mind, Body & Spirit this Month

Joanne Eastham YMCA Yoga Teacher

Put your mind, body and spirit to the test this month with brand new Yogathon and Spinathon fundraising challenges.

And don’t worry if you’re new to Yoga or Spinning or both. Each weekend event, taking place at YMCA St Annes on St Albans Rd, has got beginner sessions included and friendly YMCA instructors to help too.

The first Yogathon, which is raising funds for the AKS Cricket Tour to Sri Lanka, is this Saturday 24th January starting at midday.

Registered British Wheel of Yoga (BWY) teacher Joanne Eastham (pictured) is taking the 5 hours of back to back sessions for beginners, intermediate and advanced level followers.

Yoga, the Sanskrit word for ‘union’, helps to co-ordinate the breath, mind and body encouraging inner and physical balance, promoting feelings of relaxation and ease.

Joanne said: “This is a unique opportunity to experience Yoga for the first time or as an accomplished follower. Yoga is one of the most popular classes at YMCA and we’ll be recreating an atmosphere where participants will achieve a real sense of inner calm.”

The Spinathon, also at the centre and scheduled for the following Saturday 31st January spins off from 12.30pm.

Gareth Fegan, Manager of YMCA St Annes said: “We introduced a vibrant Spinning programme last September and we’ve practically become a hub for spinners and cyclists over night.

“With this new event we want to attract new people to try Spinning and also challenge our dedicated riders to take on two sessions if they can. All funds raised through pre-booking seats for just £5, will be going to our chosen charities the Fylde Sharks Disability Swimming Club and Fylde Fairtrade.”
