YMCA Garstang Taster Weekend

YMCA Garstang Leisure Centres on Windsor Road and Oak Road are excited with the continuing developments and improvements to the facilities so far.

After closely consulting with customers, Wyre Council’s Cabinet approved a £390k investment to the centres. Refurbishments at both centres started in July and will include an extended gym and new free weights section at YMCA Garstang Leisure Centre. The centre on Windsor Road will also receive new resistance and cardio equipment, improvements to the studio, changing rooms, toilets and reception area. A disabled changing facility will also be added. The changing facilities at YMCA Garstang Swimming Pool on Oak Road will receive a full refurbishment.

The inclusion of the latest generation of cardio equipment and technology from Life Fitness will allow customers at YMCA Garstang Leisure Centre to witness a new digital fitness experience. Dynamic resistance machines and a new free weights area will allow for the strengthening, toning and sculpting of the body. The new state of the art SYNRGY90 functional training system, will further allow customers to supercharge their workout. This versatile piece of equipment will provide a setting for a new social and energised dynamic, designed to keep exercise focused to personal fitness levels.

YMCA Garstang Swimming Pool is anticipated to re-open on Thursday 1st September and refurbishments completed at the Leisure Centre on Monday 5th September.

Both centres will be hosting a special taster weekend for the community to come along and see the facilities first hand from 9.30am – 2pm on Saturday 24th September at the Leisure Centre and from 10am-2pm on Sunday 25th September at the Swimming Pool. Gym and timetabled classes will be free to attend on the day in addition to free swimming at the pool.

Councillor Lynne Bowen, Leisure and Culture Portfolio Holder at Wyre Council, said: “I’m pleased that the Garstang leisure refurbishment programme is nearing completion and people will soon be able to enjoy the new facilities.

“We’ve used a local contractor who has worked extremely hard to keep the refurbishment on schedule and we’re very pleased with the work.”

“The changes you’ll see were all highlighted as areas for improvement in our public consultation. Customers can look forward to a larger gym with state-of-the-art equipment, greater accessibility and fresh, new surroundings at both the leisure centre and swimming pool.”

Dave Sweetman, General Manager at YMCA Garstang added, “We hope you will agree that the refurbishments and improvements at both centres are an exciting new addition to the community and we urge its members to make full use of the facilities on offer. With the exciting new developments and equipment, we aim to provide a great experience that will inspire all members of the community to get active.”
