What is Y: Women Can?
Y:Women Can is our newest project aimed at increasing once a week participation in sport for women and girls aged 14 + across three core sports – running, cycling and swimming. Taking place across the Fylde area, Y: Women Can will aim to ‘Empower and Encourage more Women to become Physically Active’.
Y: Women Can will work closely with Sport England campaigns and national insights such as ‘This Girl Can’. Find out more about the ‘This Girl Can’ campaign.
Why are we doing it?
Sport England research reveals a huge difference in the number of men and women playing sport – two million fewer 14-40 year olds in total. And, it’s not because females don’t want to get active – 75% say they want to be more active. Millions of women and girls are afraid to exercise because of fear of judgement.
We believe in the positive impact sport can have on people’s lives and in particular that more should be done to encourage women and girls to get involved in sport.
Y: Women Can Activities
All of our activities are non-competitive and exclusively for women. Activities will be taking place at our Activation Hubs at YMCA St Annes, YMCA Rural Splash Kirkham, YMCA St Annes Pool & Gym and YMCA Lytham.
For a full list of timetabled activities and costs, please visit the Your Move website
All sessions are undertaken by our fully qualified coaches and Sport Activators.
So what are you waiting for, get involved and become inspired!
Why not help as a Volunteer?
Not only is Y: Women Can aiming to increase participation in sport for women and girls, the project also aims to increase volunteering opportunities in the area, especially amongst women. If you are inspired by the project and would like to get involved, then help us by becoming a volunteer and completing a volunteer enquiry form.
