Fitness First for FTFC & YMCA

Fleetwood Town Football Club have joined forces with YMCA in a fitness partnership first for their players.

The partnership will see YMCA become the club’s official Fitness Partner for the first team and development squad.

Players will combine pre and post match fitness training at YMCAs in Thornton and Fleetwood with football sessions at their new Poolfoot Farm training ground.

Fleetwood Town on SpartanYoul Mawene, the club’s Sports Scientist said: “The players’ performance hinges on their fitness. In YMCA we have found a partner who can deliver on our group and individual training requirements. In terms of the gym equipment and studio facilities available, YMCA is undoubtedly leading the way.

“Add to this our shared commitment to influencing local people to improve their fitness for a better way of life. We believe we have a very strong community focused partnership”.

Recent £3.5m investment in state of the art health and fitness facilities at the Thornton centre will see the players use both the latest gym equipment and class studios for fitness sessions throughout the season. At the Fleetwood centre, players will be using the pool for designated swimming sessions.

Keith Potter, YMCA’s Fitness Manager said: “It’s fantastic to have the guys training with us and encouraging for our customers seeing the red shirts and knowing they have entrusted their health and fitness in facilities and gym equipment that meet the standards and requirements of professional athletes.”

Development Squad in training sessionMartin Booker, Head of Commercial added: “This is an exciting new partnership for the club which will benefit the 1st team and development squad players. It further demonstrates the club’s ability to be in the heart of the community, supporting a community driven organisation and promotes the club in a positive manner. We also hope to be able to help YMCA promote any fitness offers to our fans too. ”

Training schedules with YMCA commenced this week and will run through to the end of the season.
